One part performance, one part party, EVANESCENT explores disco and discotheques as sites of trance and transformation, where deep desire, fatigue, and joy can act as mechanisms of collective queer BIPOC identity formation and celebration through primarily afro-diasporic social dance tradition and music technologies. An exercise in excess, adornment, and endurance, the work celebrates the staying power of disco and a deep love for music and movement as vehicles for self-discovery and community building.
The project production cross pollinates connections between grassroots dance production and local underground nightlife to build an experience that honors and highlights the labor of love both communities put into their work, and to showcases the potential of how these spaces mirror one another and can work together.
